Stone Canyon fundraiser encourages family fitness

Stone Canyon Elementary’s spring fundraiser encourages families to be active together.
Its Spring into Shape 5K and Family Fun Run will be held this Saturday. 
Awards will be given to the top 5K finishers, including a $50 Walmart gift card to the top male and female runners.
Proceeds from the runs will benefit the Stone Canyon physical education, music and computer departments. 
All proceeds, up to $2,500, will be matched by Modern Woodmen of America. 
Chick-fil-A will be on hand with free sandwiches for race finishers; the Chick-fil-A cow will start the race. In addition, Elite Performance & Rehabilitation will warm up runners before the race and give free massages after the race.
“We have had great support from the community to cover the cost of the race so all the proceeds can go directly to the specialty programs,” said Co-Coordinator Tonya Loving. “We would like to thank our sponsors for all of their support.” Sponsors include Bailey Medical Center, Owasso Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine, and Arthur J. Gallagher & Co.
The community has also shown support through its race participation in previous years.
“Parents are especially supportive of Stone Canyon,” Loving said. “Many will even try to run the race before heading off to a day full of soccer, softball, and baseball for their own children.”
Coordinators expect close to 150 participants.
The cost of the 5K run is $20 and the Fun Run is $15. 
Ten percent of the registration fees will be given to the home school of the runner if noted on the registration form.
