Whisler homers twice on Senior Day for Rams

OWASSO — Catcher Josh Whisler homered twice and drove in three runs, allowing Owasso to celebrate Senior Day with a 5-0 victory over Bishop Kelley Saturday at Stigall Field.

Sophomore left hander Jeb Bargfeldt scattered four hits and struck out 12 en route to his fifth victory in seven decisions. The Rams improved to 27-4 and finished 12-2 in district games. They play host to the regional tournament which starts on Thursday.

Owasso, ranked second in Class 6A, used the long ball abundantly against the No. 7 Comets, collecting four doubles in addition to Whisler’s blasts. Tyler Hupp had a pair of two-baggers, the second one driving in Colton Crocker for the game’s first run in the third.

Whisler followed Hupp to the plate and sent John Lynch’s pitch over the right field fence for his fourth homer of the season.

The Rams added more runs in the sixth inning. Whisler led off with his second boomer over right to take the team home run lead, making it 4-0. After Austin Mason was struck by Lynch, pinch-hitter Preston Olmstead slapped another double to left center, knocking in Mason.

Kelley appeared ready to ruin Bargfeldt’s shut out in the fifth with a base hit and Lynch’s double to the right field corner with one out. However, Bargfeldt bore down and fanned both the Comets’ Mark Grossman and Cory Bright to leave runners stranded at first and third
